As it happens often when home schooling, we used a show we watched as a jumping off point for the days studies. We were watching a tv show about outer space and the food the astronauts eat and the question came up; how are the stars counted? This prompted a search to find out just that. The easy answer is NASA uses it's many satellites to count the stars, but what kind of satellite you may ask, why the Hubble Telescope is one of them. Today we are learning as a family, how the telescope goes about counting the stars in our sky. I wonder how they account for stars burning out and new ones being born.
