Okay so when I have challenges in my personal life I tend to suck at posting my blog. Monday was my only teaching day this week. Tests for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd year students are being given at the university Thursday and Friday of this week. Because of that I had fewer students in my class as the teachers were preparing for the tests. Monday was an eventful day as Chuck and I both signed our contracts for next year with the university. I am very excited as I am officially a teacher at Henan University of Technology.
Tuesday I went and had lunch and a Chinese lesson at my friend Basha’s house. We met on Sunday at a restaurant near Zhengzhou Universities Bookstore. I took some pictures of the lunch at Basha’s house a traditional Chinese meal of noodles and fresh fruits and vegetables. Then we had a Chinese lesson and I helped Basha with her English too. That afternoon I was taken back up to the new campus area to meet with a group of people that would like me to tutor them in English. After meeting with them myself and my family were taken out to dinner at the restaurant across the street from our apartment, Nie Rong Shi Jia.
Wednesday a rest day, did nothing but wash my hair and then go out for dinner.
Thursday I went up to the university for my Chinese lesson with Carol and then to walk around looking at apartment options with my friend Ellie. Since my Chinese lessons have changed a bit in that I am more concerned with speaking the language we go all over the campus and Wednesday was no exception, we sat on a bench and worked on speaking and there was a photographer that came by and snapped Carol and I as she worked on my pronunciation. I then took her to lunch at the Muslim diner that Chuck took me to. After lunch she went back to her studies and I went in search of Ellie. She got me a drink (pear juice of course) and then we went to check out apartments. The price of the rentals was a bit higher than I was looking at so I will have to think about it. Once we had looked at the apartment I then got on the 45 bus to come home. I was all set to just chill but a gentleman on the bus noticed that I was a foreigner (wonder what gave me away)? We then started talking. He asked me where I was from and I told him America and then he told me that his son was at Stamford studying Biology, he also told me that he will be traveling to the US soon on business. Nate and I spent the afternoon at Gongren Road/Lu Market, checking out prices on gaming systems then we went up to Vanguard where I got a new computer, the one I brought with me from the states is having all kinds of issues and once the school year is finished I’m taking it to get completely cleaned and have everything re-installed on it. I’ll keep that for our school records and rarely get on line with in this way I’m hoping to keep it virus free.
Today is Friday and this was a busy day too! All this week the drama in our house has been about our kitchen sink that had a large crack across the bottom and we would have the 6th great lake in our kitchen when we washed dishes. This morning a worker came and installed a new sink and our computer guy came and changed my new computer from Chinese to English, he also did a good bit of advertising by putting his business card in all the doors in our stairwell. I will try very hard to get on here this weekend to update what we are doing.
