Like our other days here in Hong Kong, we started the day with going to McDonald’s for breakfast. After breakfast we walked over to the Hong Kong Museum of Art. Our first stop was to be the Hong Kong Space Museum but they don’t open until later in the day so we put that on the list for our next visit to Hong Kong in January. At some museums in town Wednesday’s are free days and that was the case with the Museum of Art. I did get some pictures before I was told that I couldn't take flash photography and the Ages of Model-calligraphy display forbid you to take any type of pictures. Chuck doesn't have a flash and he had to stop. Anyway here’s what is in the museum floor by floor. 4th or top floor – Chinese Fine Art we didn't see much here as they are in the process of putting a new show up and it won’t be ready until the end of this month. We’ll swing by in January and take a look then. 3rd floor is the Chinese Antiquities Gallery and this super awesome chart of all the Dynasties in China. I started to take the pictures of them and I got told that I couldn't take flash pictures. Oh Well. They had lots of neat things from the Neolithic Period c. 7000-2000 BC all the way up to present day China with the Republic of China starting in 1912 and the People’s Republic of China starting in 1949. I did write down all the information so I can go back and find it out. Remember the Han that I dressed as for the Mid-Autumn Festival? Well they as a dynasty were from 206 BC – AD 220 and have two distinct styles. Western Han work is dated from 206 BC –AD 8 and Eastern Han covers AD 25-220. We saw many neat works on this floor and Chuck has some pictures of them. Floor 2 houses the special exhibition Gallery that was getting a new exhibit today. It also housed the Ages of Model-calligraphy exhibit. On floor 1 we learned about the museum itself from its inception City Hall Museum and Art Gallery in the City Hall in Central by the Urban Council in 1962. [1] In 1991, it was moved to the present premises at 10 Salisbury Road, near the Hong Kong Cultural Centere and the Hong Kong Space Museum, in Tsim Sha Tsui. They have a display titled Cruising the Universe Fantastic Animals in the Arts of China. It is neat how they look at the art on display and highlight which pieces have animals and what ones.
After our visit to the art museum, we all got waffles with peanut butter and a sweetened butter honey combination. They were delicious and Chuck had to try some fried squid on a stick; Nate and I not so much. We came back to the room and Nate got on his laptop to check out the latest on YouTube while Chuck and I went to Natural Healing Foot Reflexology for body & Chinese back massages and foot massages. I also got a pedicure, got to have nice feet no matter that mine are going into boots when I get back to the apartment.
