Today we went to Wanda Plaza which is a shopping mall in Zhengzhou. On our way there we saw an amazing street musician and Chuck has video of him on his site http://adventureinchina.weebly.com/chucks-blog.html
Wal-Mart is there and so are Pizza Hut, KFC, and a host of other stores
with both English and Chinese names. We walked all over the mall in search of different stores to try and we saw some new stores and some that were familiar from home. In the end we stopped and bought at Wal-Mart because that is where our money seemed to go the farthest.
At Pizza Hut my classical music loving self was in heaven. We heard music from various classical masters: Grieg’s Wedding Day at Troldhaugen, Listz’s Libenstrum, Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata Mvt. 1, several of Chopin’s Preludes Op. 28, several of Schumann’s Children’s Pieces and Satie’s Gymnopedie No.1. I had great fun telling Chuck and Nate the titles of different pieces of piano music that we were listening to. I have decided that even if I am not needed to teach piano lessons I will ask if it is possible for me to spend time practicing the piano on the new campus. I figure that while Nate is working with his Chinese tutor and Chuck is in class I can do this. It has been so long since I played serious classical music it will be like greeting an old friend.
We will have to go back to check out more of Wanda Plaza as with 5 floors we couldn't see everything today. I do know that the top floor is resturants.
Diana and her friend Yang were my tutors today. We went to Vanguard and compared my picture book of fruits and veggies to what was in the store. I just wish we had more time an hour flew by and I had to get back home as Chuck had to work and I didn’t want Nate to be left home alone. We are planning to go to Vanguard again, hope that our next lesson can be in it that would be great; a before and after with moon cakes.
