This has been an action packed weekend. Today I went with Shirley to Chang Zhuang Reservoir; Chang Zhuang Shui Ku 长庄水库. Where we were able to relax and prepare ourselves for the coming work week. I also learned several new Chinese words: tilapia (the fish) is liyu 立鱼, mutton skewer’s are yangrouchuan 羊肉串, pomegranate is shiliu 石榴, and nunchaku are shauangjiegun 双截棍. Dinner was freshly made as it was chicken that was walking around when you got there, freshly grilled tilapia and grass fish mutton skewer’s, assorted vegetables and boiled peanuts.
The great big adventure started this morning when Shirley and her son Kevin picked me up. (I will be teaching Kevin English) We drove back to her parent’s home where I discovered that she plays the piano also! From there we drove through the village of Chang Zhuang to Chang Zhuang Reservoir. I didn’t realize it but there were four cars of people in our party. Once at the reservoir there were many things to see as chickens roamed the area freely, and people fished.
Lunch was an amazing array of traditionally cooked Chinese foods and some that are not native to China…TILAPIA not a native fish was served. After lunch we had more fishing and I learned how to play poker 5 card draw. I am totally teaching Nate as he enjoys card games! I assumed that a deck of cards would look different here in China but nope it looks the very same and the JOKER is written in English. After playing a few rounds and fishing some more it was time to head in, not a bit to soon as Kevin crashed in the car coming home.
