Beautiful day to the beginning of a holiday weekend here, the Dragon Boat Festival also called the Double Fifth Festival is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth moon of the lunar calendar. This is one of the most important festivals the other important ones being Autumn Moon Festival and Chinese New Year. This festival centers on a scholarly government official named Chu Yuan a good and respected but because of the misdeeds of jealous rivals he fell from favor in the emperor’s court. Unable to regain the respect of the emperor and in his sorrow Chu Yuan threw himself into the Mi Low river; because the local people admired Chu Yuan they rushed to their boats to search for him while throwing rice into the river to appease the river dragons. They didn’t find Chu Yuan but their efforts are commemorated today with the Dragon Boat Festival. I thank my husband and his students for this information. Dragon Boat Festival will be celebrated on Sunday and because of this holiday we have a holiday at school no classes Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday. Thursday morning Chuck is having a make up class for his Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday classes with Nate and I playing live and answering questions. My students on Thursday will have their final oral exam as the last class of the semester for us.
Today I went to the campus doctor I have been having some severe pain in my foot when I walk and since it wasn’t all the time I didn’t think Heel Spur, but an x-ray of my foot showed that I indeed have a heel spur on my left foot. It isn’t a large one but it is there none the less. I am trying some Chinese medicine to get the blood flowing to the area in hopes that an increase in the blood flow will bring about improved health. I went to the doctor with Ellie so she could translate for me what the doctor said to me and what I was telling the doctor. After the doctor visit we went to have dinner at the restaurant at Vanguard store. I had a pumpkin soup and Ellie ordered some tasty sticky rice in lotus roots for us.
Not only was today a good day for me it was the last day in the school year for Nate and I am sure he was very excited for that. He got a treat from Ellie today, she got him some cake from the bakery next door to KFC as a thank you for spending the afternoon with his mom.
