MCDONALDS!!! We actually don’t live to far from Mickey Dee’s as we call it in the states. We went down one of my favorite roads in Zhengzhou; Tong Bai Lu. Doesn’t that name just sound neat? Anyway McDonalds was in Dashang Market and is a trademark of theirs there was a merry go round outside of the store. Like all the Dashang Markets we have gone to this has 3 levels the first two are home goods, electronics and clothing and the top floor is the food. We didn’t need much but we got my much desired lemons to flavor drinking water a new shirt for Chuck and pocky for Nate. At McDonalds we had Big Mac Meals and it was long overdue. It has been a while since we at the all-beef patties and secret sauce. The food tasted just like in the states and the fries were just the same too. The meal cost less than it would if we were in the US too. The one thing that is taking a bit of getting used to is just leaving our tray on the table and someone from the store will clean the table. In the US we have to clean our own table when we finish eating at a fast food restaurant. When we go to a fine dining place it is different. We are home resting for a bit and then back out on our bikes for another trip out, still looking for that backpack purse that I can use while riding my bike around town.
We traveled down to the market on Gongren Lu and we found lots down there to buy. First we saw a Sugar Cane juice stand grinding sugar cane to fill cups for several people.Chuck got video of this and I got a picture the process is very interesting because the cane is put in the machine and chewed up and the juice is taken from it and poured into a waiting cup, much like a juicer with do for vegetables and fruit.A plastic lid is then sealed to the cup making a water tight seal. You can put a straw in it a drink it or save it and cook with the juice. We tried drinking it and we aren’t fond of the drink and figure it must be an
acquired taste. Lots of people do have that taste and the lines are quite impressive at these booths. Nate was the first of us to score today at the market with his headphones that also have a mic included. We then looked for a ping pong paddle and ball set, both Nate and Chuck enjoy playing this and we have found several places near us where they can do just that. Also the front area of our first apartment building on the campus has a ping pong table there. The first place we saw wanted more than we were willing to pay for the paddle combination but the wonderful thing about any market is that if you keep walking you will find what you want at the price that you are willing to pay. I had to look at a few booths that sold purses and backpacks before I found a small purple pack that is just right for biking and I can also use it around town and when I go to school too. And after searching for the ping pong set for Nate we found one and got that too.We are just missing a CD player for Chuck to take to school and play for his classes. The book that the speaking class uses has a CD that he needs to play for the
class.I just thought about this. In the states drug stores have all kinds of things and one of them is a ‘boom box’ a radio/CD player in one unit. He’s going to try that and see if that will work.Chuck did get his cleaning that he left at the cleaners on Monday. The shirt looks nice they did a great job on cleaning and pressing it.
