The day after Chinese New Year and we went for a stroll as a family today. Our goal was to go out to lunch and we accomplished that goal but we didn’t go where we had started to go to as they were still closed for the holiday. We walked through the park so Nate could shoot off the last of his fireworks he got from his new friend. We also thought that the walk would be nice the river runs through the park and the park goes on for blocks. We walked through to Ru He where Chuck and I went yesterday and then we went one extra block to Huaihe Xilu, 淮河西路. Where we turned to walk down Zhengmi Lu (郑密路)one more block to get to the Dashang Super Market that has Dunkin Donuts and KFC. It also has a wonderful food court on the 4th floor and that was where we were going for lunch. Like so much of China right now, the food court was closed so we went to KFC for lunch. After the meal, Chuck ordered ice cream sundaes for all of us and he used Chinese. On our way back home again through the park Nate set off his fireworks and even though the news paper said that fireworks would stop about dawn this morning, they are still happening at 4 pm. I will say that they have gotten slower with much more time between bursts but fireworks are still going off and stands are still selling fireworks. While we were out today I saw two signs of four characters each and both times I was able to recognize three of the four. The first sign was 郑州国 Zhengzhou Nation with a fourth character on it and the second sign was 人口学 human, mouth, study and some other character. I gather that some type of study of human eating habits is going on but I’m not for sure. I am posting the second picture on my blog. I forgot to take a picture of the first one but I’m down to that Dashang often enough to snap the picture later. I also saw the sign for mountain or shan today 山. We saw lots of stores with that in the name but one that we saw looked like it was a paint supply store of some kind.
